April Maldonado - Art

April Maldonado
Hi Robinson, I am Mrs. Maldonado, the art teacher. I started at Robinson in 1998 and there is nothing better than spending the day with Roadrunners! My husband Omar and I have been married for 25 years, we have Adreanne, 30, Christian, 23, Solis, 17 and Elijah, 14. Adreanne & Jake (Summers) live in Pennsylvania where Adreanne teaches and coaches. They just had a baby boy in June. Christian is finishing his teaching degree at Florida State University and will soon be an orchestra teacher. Solis is a Senior at KHS and Eli is a freshman at KHS. As a family, we enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, sporting events and cultural celebrations around the St. Louis area.
Teaching art is exciting every day. I love coming up with new ideas to motivate students. I am a firm believer that making art is not all about creation and product. Art is about developing creative thinking and problem solving skills as well as making and doing. These are important skills every student needs for their future work and careers. Each year we put all of the above into a full school art show that opens the week prior to spring break. Included are some pictures from the show this past school year. The theme of the show was "Robinson Art is Out of this World!" All projects (pre-k through 5th grade) were inspired by space and astronauts. It was a blast!
